After much consideration & discussion we are opting to cancel tonight’s meetup due to the weather & road conditions. Many apologies for any inconvenience but we want you all to stay safe out there!

Happily, we have rescheduled this event for this Wednesday, January 1st! The time & location remain the same. We hope you can join us Wednesday night!

The December 2019 MSP Audio Geeks meetup will be on Wednesday, December 30th from 7-9pm at Wild Sound Recording Studio. Special guests Chris & Yoli Mara, of Welcome to 1979, will host a fun discussion – Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Getting Vinyl Records Pressed, And More!

Established in 2008 by husband and wife team Chris and Yoli Mara, Welcome to 1979 has grown to become a multi-faceted recording studio integral to the Nashville community. The 13,000 square foot facility is housed in a former record pressing plant; the music history hits you as soon as you step foot in the door.

We’ve spent the last 11 years cultivating a comfortable and creative atmosphere for artists to make music – and our gear list and clients reflect that!

Wild Sound Recording Studio is celebrating its 25th year in business. Started by engineer Matthew Zimmerman, it is owned and operated by producer engineer Steve Kaul. Assistant engineers – Matt Holmes and Joshua Parlanti. Studio booking by Serena Brook. We do Classical, Jazz, Folk, Country, World Music, Rock, Remote Recording and Sound for Film.

The December 2018 MSP Audio Geeks meetup is Thursday, December 27th from 7-10pm at Wild Sound Recording Studio. Join Chris Mara (owner of Mara Machines and Welcome to 1979 Studio) for a fun, informative demonstration of creative uses of Mara tape machines with DAWs. There are tons of new and interesting ways to meld analog and digital workflows! Chris will have a Mara Machine on hand to demonstrate several of these new workflow concepts with lots of time for Q&A. Bring a stereo file and get it recorded on tape so you can hear the difference for yourself! Adult beverages and snacks provided.

Chris Mara is the founder and owner of Mara Machines, the world’s largest analog tape machine restoration company. He is also a recording engineer and owns Welcome To 1979 studio in Nashville, TN. Both businesses have been thriving for over 10 years with an impressive world-wide client list.

December’s MSP Audio Geeks meetup will be on Monday, December 21st. John Miller of Secret Stash Records will be our host, and special guest Chris Mara of Welcome to 1979 and Mara Machines will be joining us. Come spend an evening with Chris as he demonstrates creative ways to use tape machines with DAW setups, talks about tape machine restoration and ownership, and spills some in-depth tips and tricks.

Chris Mara is a recording engineer, owner of Nashville’s Welcome To 1979 recording studio, and owner of Mara Machines; the largest analog tape machine restoration company in the world. Mara’s passion for recording led to founding the analog-centric Welcome To 1979; which has clients such as Pete Townshend, Eric Burdon and Third Man Records. Welcome To 1979 is also heavily involved in the vinyl industry via its vinyl mastering department, which cuts vinyl masters for Sony Records, Warner Records, Compass Records and Concord Records, Secret Stash Records, along with many, many independent artists.

John Miller is Chief Engineer at Secret Stash Records, an independent record label based in Minneapolis releasing reissues and compilations as well as new 45s, LPs, and CDs. The Secret Stash studio was built in Winter/Spring of 2015 as an analog-focused studio with a completely integrated digital side. The studio was built with the needs of the house band (The Lakers, of Sonny Knight and The Lakers fame) in mind, but since opening, they have done projects ranging from Afrobeat to Krautrock to Indie and back.

December’s MSP Audio Geeks Meetup will be Tuesday, December 30th from 7-9pm at Essential Sessions, hosted by Phoebe Danskin and Brad Matala.

“Essential Sessions Is home to a world class audio recording studio and have hosted artists and producers ranging from Lady Gaga’s band, Producer Michael Blake (Whitney Houston) and gospel great Sheila Ray Charles (daughter of Ray Charles), Tom Herbers as well as a host of local bands including Cloud Cult, Fury Things, Charlie Parr, Cactus Blossoms, Limns, The Honey Dogs, and Sims.

Our staff works to not only record audio but develop a game plan with musicians. We help encourage musicians to set goals and use recordings as a method to achieve those goals.

We commonly provide full production assistance with Kickstarter campaigns to help fund projects including a day to day strategy to raise funds through crowdsourcing.
