July’s meetup is on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016 from 6-9pm at The Pearl Recording Studio, hosted by founder, engineer, and producer Zachary Hollander. We’ll be recording simultaneously to analog tape and a DAW and then comparing the two. Zach will also share some tips & tricks for getting great sounds.

From the website:
“The Pearl Recording Studio was founded by brothers Zachary and Noah Hollander in the spring of 2010. Our main objective at The Pearl is to provide professional recordings with the highest quality of sound possible. We strive for excellence in everything we do and pay close attention to every detail, cutting corners on nothing. Our goal is to see every artist satisfied with a project they are proud of.

Zachary Hollander’s love for recording started at the age of sixteen when he won two microphones in a local music competition. In 2002 he opened his first recording studio, Silver Fox Records, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. After local success in recording regional projects he moved to Orlando, Florida to further his recording education at Full Sail University. After receivng his degree in Recording Arts he started his internship at the legendary Pachyderm Recording Studio in Cannon Falls, MN. After becoming a staff engineer at Pachyderm, Zachary worked on countless recordings from different genres. He has recorded thousands of songs and continues to dedicate his life to making beautiful recordings.”

December’s MSP Audio Geeks meetup will be on Monday, December 21st. John Miller of Secret Stash Records will be our host, and special guest Chris Mara of Welcome to 1979 and Mara Machines will be joining us. Come spend an evening with Chris as he demonstrates creative ways to use tape machines with DAW setups, talks about tape machine restoration and ownership, and spills some in-depth tips and tricks.

Chris Mara is a recording engineer, owner of Nashville’s Welcome To 1979 recording studio, and owner of Mara Machines; the largest analog tape machine restoration company in the world. Mara’s passion for recording led to founding the analog-centric Welcome To 1979; which has clients such as Pete Townshend, Eric Burdon and Third Man Records. Welcome To 1979 is also heavily involved in the vinyl industry via its vinyl mastering department, which cuts vinyl masters for Sony Records, Warner Records, Compass Records and Concord Records, Secret Stash Records, along with many, many independent artists.

John Miller is Chief Engineer at Secret Stash Records, an independent record label based in Minneapolis releasing reissues and compilations as well as new 45s, LPs, and CDs. The Secret Stash studio was built in Winter/Spring of 2015 as an analog-focused studio with a completely integrated digital side. The studio was built with the needs of the house band (The Lakers, of Sonny Knight and The Lakers fame) in mind, but since opening, they have done projects ranging from Afrobeat to Krautrock to Indie and back.

Feel free to invite your friends & BYOB. If you’re planning to attend please email mspaudiogeeks at gmail dot com. ***This just in*** Mara Machines will be providing some tasty snacks and beverages! Come join us for a night of geeky audio fun.
